Restore your smile with natural-looking dentures

Dentures can be used to replace one, several or even all of your upper or lower teeth. Many people know and refer to them as false teeth. Dentures have been used as a very effective way of returning functionality to the mouth for many years. They come with a range of benefits, including:

  • Improving the way you eat and speak
  • Boosting your confidence
  • Supporting your facial shape, particularly around the cheeks and lips

Dentures are normally removable but can be fixed into place using dental implants. You can have partial dentures, which blend in seamlessly with your existing teeth, or complete dentures, which replace all teeth and can pass for the real thing.

At Docklands Dental House, dentures are created using modern, high quality materials. They are very natural looking in the mouth and have a secure and comfortable fit, giving you confidence when eating, talking and smiling.

Types of Dentures

Flexible dentures

As the name suggests, these are more flexible than standard acrylic dentures and can be adapted to flex and grip around teeth. The denture is therefore more comfortable and feels more secure. No metal components are included, giving a natural look.

Chrome (metal frame)

Extremely lightweight and durable, chrome dentures can be made with attachments to hold onto existing teeth, giving extra stability. They can be made in thin sections to avoid the bulky feeling that is often found with acrylic dentures.

What is involved in having dentures made?

The process normally takes around four to six weeks from your initial consultation to fitting, as we ensure your final set of dentures is completely right for you.

  • At your initial consultation, we check your teeth and gums and produce a detailed treatment plan.
  • We then take impressions, photographs and x-rays of your mouth in order to create a wax model.
  • We check the wax model for correct fit, bite and comfort before it is used to create your final denture.
  • When your final denture is ready, we will fit it securely into place during an appointment in the practice.
  • Around one week after your fitting appointment, we will see you for a check up so we can ensure your dentures are working correctly and are completely comfortable.

Looking after your dentures

Your dentures can last for many years with proper care. We have some tips to help you keep them clean, functional and in the best possible condition:

  • Remove your dentures at night (unless your dentist advises you otherwise) so they can be cleaned and your gums get the chance to rest
  • Brush your dentures with a soft toothbrush or denture brush, using special denture cream
  • Ensure you keep your gums and any remaining natural teeth clean and healthy with regular brushing as part of your oral hygiene routine
  • Attend regular check ups with your dentist and hygienist so they are able to ensure your dentures are in the best condition and fit correctly
