Seen as the traditional choice, fixed braces consist of brackets attached to your teeth and thin metal wires to gently move your teeth into new positions. The brackets can be made from metal or tooth coloured ceramic for a more cosmetic choice. They are fixed to the front surface of your teeth for the duration of your treatment.
We also offer Quick Straight Teeth, which uses clear brackets and wires for discreet straightening. It can quickly correct problems with crowded teeth or spacing in the most visible teeth at the front of the mouth, making it a very popular system.
After confirming you are a suitable candidate for fixed braces, we take x-rays, photos and impressions of your teeth to create plaster study models. Your treatment is planned using these records.
We discuss your treatment plan in detail and give you the opportunity to ask any questions.
The brackets are securely bonded to the front of your teeth and the wire threaded through. You may feel some discomfort or tightness but this will ease after a few days.
We see you for an in-practice appointment every 4-8 weeks, to adjust your braces and ensure the treatment is going according to plan.
Once treatment is complete, we give you a final retainer, created using a mould of your teeth in their new positions. The retainer needs to be worn overnight to protect your results.
