Your Invisalign treatment will take place over a series of in-practice appointments supported by your dedication to wearing your aligners daily. Treatments lasts an average of 9-15 months, depending on the complexity of your individual case.
We examine your teeth and gums and ensure Invisalign is a good fit for your oral health and lifestyle. We then scan your teeth using the iTero digital scanner and discuss your treatment plan. We are even able to show you your predicted results using specialised ClinCheck software.
Once your custom made clear aligners have been created, we see you in the practice to fit the first set. Each set of aligners is worn for 2-3 weeks before replacing them with the next set, therefore gradually and precisely using gentle forces to move your teeth to their new positions.
Throughout the course of your Invisalign treatment, we are able to provide advice and tips on how to wear and look after your aligners to achieve maximum results. We recommend your aligners are worn for 22 hours a day, removing only to eat or clean your teeth. You will have regular appointments in the practice, allowing us to monitor your progress and check everything is going to plan.

Both Invisalign and traditional braces are effective tools for teeth straightening. However, Invisalign is considered most effective in moderate straightening issues as they can realign the teeth safely and quickly while remaining comfortable. Traditional braces are more effective in extreme misalignment issues, the tension on the brackets when pulled by the metal brace wire is very effective at moving teeth into place. Traditional braces offer a maximal grip that can re-align even severely mis-aligned teeth.

It’s recommended to wear your aligners for 20 – 22 hours a day, as any less can slow down the progress and lead to longer treatment period.
Invisalign can be used to treat a multitude of orthodontic issues, including most cases of overcrowding and gapping. However, Invisalign does have its limitations and some extreme cases may require traditional braces or other treatments. At your initial consultation your dentist will be able to give you all the options available to you.
The best way to take care of your aligners is to make sure you clean them regularly. You can do this by brushing and rinsing them in lukewarm water and occasionally using the Invisalign Cleaning Crystals or other special cleaning tablets. It’s very important that you brush your teeth after every meal or snack before re-inserting your aligners to maintain good oral hygiene.
There are no age limits with Invisalign! We frequently see patients even in their 60’s successfully completing their treatment. The Invisalign process may take longer in full-grown adults than in children or teens, but it can correct dental issues at any age.
You will need to have regular check-ups with your dentist throughout your treatment to ensure everything is going to plan. These visits will usually occur once every 4-6 weeks, depending on the severity of your case.
It is advisable to mainly drink water whilst wearing your aligners as darker liquids like red wine and coffee can causing staining or damage to the aligner. It is also recommended to remove your aligners before eating anything or chewing gum. The aligners are durable, but you wouldn’t want to risk breaking them!
Always make sure you brush your teeth after eating and before putting your aligners back in. Bacteria and plaque form on your teeth quickly after a meal – so getting rid of them right away will keep both your teeth and aligners clean.
