Maintaining your long term oral health

Our aim is to help you achieve and maintain excellent oral health. The best way to stay healthy is prevention, and our dental hygienists create a bespoke plan to care for your teeth and gums at home.

Our hygienists liaise closely with your dentist to help prevent any issues such as gum disease creating further problems in time. The hygienist provides a thorough professional clean of your teeth, removing plaque and tartar, and is best placed to provide advice on your regular oral hygiene routine.

Why is dental hygiene important?

There are a number of reasons why you should aim to maintain the highest level of oral hygiene possible. It can safeguard against more serious and often costly problems in the future and regular visits to the hygienist ensure you are staying on track. Some examples of problems caused by poor oral hygiene include:

  • Gum disease
  • Plaque build-up
  • Unsightly stained teeth
  • Bad breath
  • Tooth loss
  • Cavities

Most of our patients build up a good relationship with their hygienist, who tailor your treatment to your individual needs and advise on the dental products that would be best to use to maintain excellent oral hygiene.

What will happen at my appointment?

Initially, the hygienist will ask a few questions about your medical and dental history, your current oral health regime and if you have any concerns with your teeth. This ensures that the treatment is tailored to your needs.

The main part of your hygiene appointment will be the scale and polish – a thorough clean of your teeth which will leave them spotless, with stubborn plaque and tartar removed, preventing and treating gum disease. The professional polish will leave your teeth feeling smoother and cleaner.

The hygienist will also give you advice on how to properly care for your teeth and gums to maintain good oral health.
